OUR MISSION is to provide the best
quality service and instruction possible. We are committed
to fun, challenging and safe workouts combining flexibility
with strength.
Our staff continually updates their knowledge with
educational workshops to keep them on top of the latest
research in exercise.
We have dedicated our careers to reaching the zenith
of exercise proficiency in order to design the appropriate
workout for the right person.
As optimal movement teachers, our goal is to help our
clients reeducate the proper muscles to work at the
proper time, with the proper effort. We work to re-pattern
the sequence in which muscles fire.
It would be much easier to give clients a swiss ball
program or have them do a bunch of abs. It's more challenging
to invite clients to learn how to recruit muscles in
the most efficient order. We show clients different
strategies to reactivate stability muscles, the muscles
that protect joint-neutral.
For example, in the lumbar spine, we use the transversus
abdominus, multifidus and the posterior fasciculi of
psoas. Muscles that control joint-neutral are trained
prior to adding a load. Strengthening is not appropriate
until you have reactivated those stabilizing muscles.
As efficient movement teachers, we must be able to
differentiate stability from strength. We must not
assume a client is weak because of an inability perform
an exercise.
For the lumbar spine, we should train spinal stability
muscles first. When appropriate, progress the client
to Gyrotonic®/Pilates strengthening exercises.
Gyrotonic® and Bodyscapes Pilates require knowledge
of muscle anatomy and muscle function.
Remember design your Gyrotonic®/Pilates program
for the individual client. All things are difficult
before they are easy.
